In photos - Users of Shubie Park may notice a very special event happening in a grassy field today, and you are asked to admire but give space to a very young mama dinosaur doing her duty to keep her species alive
A young mama snapping turtle has decided to nest in an odd spot at Shubie Park, possibly unsure of herself due to her young age.
The great workers at Shubie have set up a wide barrier with cones and tape to let people know that something is up, and people are asked to admire but observe from a safe distance and please keep pets away as mama continues her exhausting journey to lay her precious eggs.
Turtles in Nova Scotia are a protected species and nesting destruction is a big factor in turtle population decline.
Many species of turtles nest in their own birth nesting areas, and when those areas are destroyed, it likely can end generations of nesting, forever changing that areas turtle population.
