It is hard to believe that it was seven years ago today that tiny Frankie the Fox arrived at Hope for Wildlife. Let's have a look at Frankie over the years!
Frankie was admitted as a pup with severe head trauma, probably from being hit by a car. She was quiet, lethargic, experiencing tremors, had some brain swelling, and she didn't move her legs at all. We didn't give up, and neither did she. Soon, our feisty little pup was voluntarily gobbling food, gaining weight, and standing on her own four legs.
Sadly, Frankie's head injuries left her unable to see out of her left eye, and she only has partial vision in the right. Even though she compensated for it will with all her other senses, she wasn't able to go home.
Since then, she's been an amazing member of our education team. It's been an incredible experience watching her grow up. The young pup bounding around her enclosure, showing off for visitors. The awkward teenage years where she would whine when it was time to get up and greet people. Her mature and pampered adult years. She's always been a beautiful, intelligent, and feisty representative for her entire fox family.
There's no way to know how many people she's influenced to think more about sharing their world with our wild neighbours. Over the years she's had thousands of kids and adults visit her, witnessing her amazing personality, her indomitable spirit, learning her story, and taking her photo to remember her by. She likes the picture part the best, by the way. She's also probably the only fox with her own wintertime heat lamp. Two lamps, to be honest. Maybe she's a tad spoiled.
