In order to get to know our oceans and the life within it, we need to have the opportunity to see it at eye level, ask questions, get curious, be compelled to care and inspired to make sustainable choices.
COMMUNITY AQUARIUMS TO THE RESCUE!
Aquariums are a spark of inspiration for ocean protection.“Community Aquariums” are alternative marine education centres that have been emerging across Canada and hold an important place in ocean conservation.
They operate differently by displaying only smaller, local, shallow-dwelling animals, having a collect-hold-and-release philosophy , and focusing heavily on hands-on learning.

We opened the Touch Tank Hut!
Since 2017 we have been operating a miniature marine interpretive centre on the Dartmouth waterfront.
This pilot project is a key step in working towards the permanent Back to the Sea Aquarium.

But that's not all! We are currently busy determining the location of the future Back to the Sea Society.
Our Society has hired Architecture 49 and their team is working on completing a feasibility study to narrow down our site location.
