182 km/h. In a 100 km/h zone
After midnight on October 22, RCMP Southeast Traffic Services - Metro was conducting radar enforcement on Hwy. 107 between Exits 12 and 13 when a vehicle was clocked travelling 182 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
That's 82 km/h over the speed limit.
The vehicle was seized and towed from the scene. The driver, a 17-year-old, was charged with stunting, and their father was called to pick them up.
At 182 km/h, this could have been a very different conversation with Dad.
Instead of discussing a seized vehicle and a stunting charge, officers could have been delivering devastating news.
And at those speeds, the consequences of a split-second decision rarely affect only the driver. Families, friends, first responders, and other road users can all be impacted when something goes wrong.
A stunting conviction in Nova Scotia comes with significant consequences:
๐ธ $2,422.50 fine for a first offence
๐ซ Immediate seven-day roadside licence suspension
๐ด Six demerit points
๐ Vehicle seized and towed from the scene
Speed limits aren't suggestions.
Slow down. Make good choices behind the wheel. Make sure everyone gets home safely.
