OSPREY FUN FACT FRIDAY
Ospreys have been observed “playing” with objects. They may pick up, drop, chase, or manipulate objects that aren't food or nesting material. Scientists have difficulty determining whether these behaviours are genuine play, practice, or simply exploration.
An Osprey's eyes don't just help it spot fish—they have adaptations that help compensate for the distortion caused by looking through water. The really fascinating part is that researchers believe their visual system can adjust for the dramatic difference between seeing through air and seeing through the water's surface.
An osprey can sometimes arrive at its nest with a fish that weighs an astonishing proportion of its own body weight. The really interesting question is how it manages the flight mechanics of carrying such a load.
