In photos - Full steam ahead as Camp Courage Fire Day 1 thunders on!
Despite a brief rain delay, spirits weren't dampened as the campers took on a challenging day head on.
Learning the tools of the trade, campers learned about the fire gear they were about to wear.
From bunker gear to SCBAs, they were fitted then learned how to get ready for a fire!
Stations today were aimed at both physical and mental challenges. The confidence trailer / tiny town saw the campers in full gear as they had to navigate a dark and confined obstacle course.
Problem solving was key as they twisted and turned their way to the final obstacle, a self extraction window.
A firefighting station saw the campers learn how to operate a hose as a team before entering a dark structure, searching for a fire (simulation) they had to properly knock down followed by ventilation of the building using hose techniques.
Other stations saw campers learn radio work as well as proper rope work for rescues and moving tools quickly and safely while other stations learned about breaching doors and suiting up quickly to get to the fire!
A fantastic show of support as both HRFE Stn 26 and Mount Uniacke fire donated to Camp Courage after fundraising for the incredible camp.
And as always, a great meal was provided by the Salvation Army!
