Municipality seeking public artwork proposals for BLT Community Centre
The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking artist-led proposals for the creation of indoor public artworks for the new Beechville Lakeside Timberlea (BLT) Community Centre.
The BLT Community Centre is a multi-use space that supports athletics and recreation, arts and cultural expression, community gatherings, family and social support services, and educational programming. The building includes a gymnasium, multipurpose dance space, program rooms, kitchen, splash pad and playground.
The facility’s name reflects the communities it serves, including Beechville, a historic African Nova Scotian community first settled in the early 1800s.
The call for proposals includes a mentorship opportunity for African Nova Scotian and Afro-Diasporic artists. Artwork commissioned through this process should be accessible, engaging and reflective of the diverse community that uses the facility.
The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16.
