Residents invited to participate in Pollinator Week
The Halifax Regional Municipality is participating in Pollinator Week from June 22 to 28, offering residents an opportunity to learn more about pollinators and their important role in supporting biodiversity.
Residents are encouraged to attend one of the many educational and hands-on events during the week, including:
- Pollinator Week Kickoff – Family Fun Event (Monday, June 22, Halifax Public Gardens, 10 a.m. to noon)
- Defending Trees, Defending Bees: The balancing act of managing one crisis without creating another (Wednesday, June 24, BMO Room of Central Library, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
- Building for Butterflies: How-to pollinator garden bed construction (Friday, June 26, Flinn Park, 9 a.m. to noon)
- Along the Water’s Edge: Plants, people and shoreline health (Saturday, June 27, Kinsmen First Lake Beach, 9 a.m. to noon)
- Interactive Bee Walk (Sunday, June 28, Fort Needham Memorial Park, 10 a.m. to noon)

Earlier this year, the municipality Bee City received status, as designated by Bee City Canada, which recognizes the municipality’s commitment to protecting and promoting pollinators by establishing and maintaining pollinator habitats, supporting community education and celebrating National Pollinator Week, held annually during the third week of June.
The designation also provides access to expert resources from Bee City Canada to support ongoing work under the municipality’s Naturalization Strategy.
Naturalization is a landscape management approach that focuses on biodiversity and making urban spaces more resilient. It includes the use of native or non-invasive grasses, perennials, shrubs and trees.
