When the call comes in, we move
At MARS, no two days are the same. One moment, we’re racing four hours to help a stranded whale; the next, we’re responding to reports of a deceased shark closer to home. Our team of trained responders does this challenging — and sometimes dangerous — work because we truly care about marine mammals and conservation.
What We Do
🦺 Respond to reports of distressed and deceased marine animals 🧪 Collect vital data through necropsies, sampling, and documentation 📈 Support research by analyzing incidents, health trends, and causes of harm 🤝 Work closely with partners across all levels of government, Indigenous groups, researchers, industry, and community organizations
Why It Matters
The information we gather helps identify threats, guide mitigation strategies, support advocacy, and strengthen conservation efforts for whales, dolphins, porpoises, and other marine life. Our data drives real conservation action — reducing risks, informing policy, and protecting the species we love.
We are so grateful for your support in keeping this important work happening in the Maritimes!
