**** Via HRM Have your say on active and safer ways for students to get to school The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to share their thoughts on active school travel, such as walking, rolling with mobility devices, scooters and biking to and from school. From May 4 to 29, 2026, residents can take part in an anonymous, 10- to 15-minute online survey as part of the Active School Travel Baseline Study, led by the municipality. The Active School Travel Baseline Study will help the municipality better understand opportunities and challenges for safer school travel routes across the Halifax region. Input from students, parents and caregivers, school staff and the broader community will help inform future planning, infrastructure improvements, and education and promotion programs that support safer and more active school-based travel. Active school travel programs encourage and support students using active transportation to get to and from school. These programs can help improve safety in school areas, reduce traffic congestion, promote physical activity and contribute to healthier, more sustainable communities. Following the public engagement period, a What We Heard Report will be released and shared on the project page in summer 2026.
