**** Municipal Release

Lane Closures – Bedford Highway

Location: Bedford Highway from the Fairview Overpass to Dartmouth Road

Date: Friday, May 2

Time: 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. (outbound lane) and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (inbound lane)

Work details: This work is for emergency pothole repair.

Traffic impact: Lane closures and an altered centre line will be in place while work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Street Closure – Thistle Street

Location: Thistle Street, from Beech Street to Crichton Park Road

Date: Thursday, May 1 until Friday, May 16

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work details: This work includes road repair, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: A signed detour will be in place while work is underway and traffic control personnel will be on site. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic delay – Larry Uteck Boulevard

Location: Larry Uteck Boulevard, from Bluewater Road to civic address 50 Broad Street

Date: Monday, May 5 to Friday, May 9

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is to support upgrades to gas mains.

Traffic impact: A lane closure will be in place while work is underway. Stop-and- go traffic control will be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Traffic Delay – Intersection of Almon and Windsor streets

Location: Intersection of Almon and Windsor streets

Date: Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work includes road repair, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: The traffic lights and signals at the intersection of Almon and Windsor streets will not be operational while work is underway. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place to guide motorists through the work area. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to take alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Closure – Sunnybrae Avenue

Location: Intersection of Sunnybrae Avenue and Dutch Village Road

Date: Thursday, May 1 to Friday, May 2

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work Details: This work is in support of the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project.

Traffic Impacts: Westerwald Street will be closed between Alex Street and Dutch Village Road. Traffic will be detoured via Alex Street. Local access will be maintained, a signed detour route will be in place and personnel will be on-site to help direct traffic.

Street Closure – Westerwald Street

Location: Intersection of Westerwald Street and Dutch Village Road

Date: Wednesday, April 30 to Thursday, May 1

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work Details: This work is in support of the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project.

Traffic Impacts: Westerwald Street will be closed between Melrose Avenue and Dutch Village Road. Traffic will be detoured via Melrose Avenue. Local access will be maintained, a signed detour route will be in place and personnel will be on-site to help direct traffic.

Traffic Delay – Dutch Village Road

Location: Dutch Village Road, between Bayers Road and Supreme Court

Date: Tuesday, April 22 to mid-December 2025

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, with weekend work as required

Work details: This work is to improve the safety and comfort of pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers.

Sidewalk and bikeway upgrades: New sidewalks and bike lanes will be installed on both sides of Dutch Village Road within the project area.

Transit infrastructure upgrades: New concrete pads will be added to improve accessibility at bus stops.

Streetscaping enhancements: Trees, benches, garbage receptacles, and interpretive signage will be added to enhance the pedestrian experience.

Parking and traffic calming: Existing parking spaces will be replaced with on-street parallel parking and lane widths will be reduced to help calm traffic and improve safety.

Traffic impacts: Access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the project; however, residents and commuters should expect the following traffic impacts:

Lane reductions and stop-and-go traffic within the project area

Temporary closures on side-streets to install new underground infrastructure

The sidewalk along Dutch Village Road will remain open for pedestrian use

Transit Impacts: This work will impact Halifax Transit routes 28 and 137. Throughout phases of this project, different bus stops along Dutch Village Road will be impacted and routes may be temporarily detoured.

Traffic Delay – Spring Garden Road

Location: Spring Garden Road, between South Park Street and Dresden Row

Date: Friday, April 25 to Monday, April 28

Time: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Work details: This work is required for the safe lifting of construction materials onto the construction site at Nelson Place on Spring Garden Road.

Traffic impact: The westbound lane will be closed. Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway.

Pedestrian Impact: The sidewalk will be closed along the area where the work is taking place. Pedestrians are asked to use alternative crosswalks to navigate around the project site.

Transit impact: The following stops will be closed:

Spring Garden Road before South Park Street (8334)

Spring Garden Road before Dresden Row (8330)

South Park Street before University Avenue (8313)

Passengers using stops Spring Garden Road before South Park Street (8334) and Spring Garden Road before Dresden Row (8330) are requested to proceed to Spring Garden Road before Queen Street (8331). Passengers using the stop South Park Street before University Avenue (8313) are requested to proceed to South Park Street before South Street (8311).

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Donaldson Bridge, French River

The Donaldson Bridge on Lake Road, about three kilometres west of Tatamagouche, is closed until further notice.

The detours are Trout Brook Road and Cooper Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Lower Portapique Bridge, Portapique

Lower Portapique Bridge on Trunk 2 is closed for repairs until further notice.

The detours are East Montrose Road and West Montrose Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Slade Road, Tatamagouche

Slade Road is closed between Lake Road and West Tatamagouche Road until further notice because of a bridge closure.

INVERNESS COUNTY: MacKay Bridge, Aberdeen

The MacKay Bridge on Highway 105, about 200 metres west of Route 223, will be reduced to one lane for repairs until Friday, May 16. Work takes place from sunrise to sunset. ---

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

The Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.

YARMOUTH COUNTY: Pembroke Bridge, Yarmouth

Pembroke Bridge on Pembroke Road will be closed for replacement until Sunday, August 31.

Detour signs are in place.
