Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating suspicious death associated to electrocution in Cumberland County

The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit (NEN MCU) is investigating a suspicious death in Cumberland County.

On August 2, Cumberland County District RCMP and other first responders attended a report of a man with injuries at a commercial property in the 3000-block of Hwy. 321 in Oxford. The man was transported to hospital with injuries associated to an electrocution that occurred on July 29. The electrocution was not a workplace incident.

On October 5, the man, a 51-year-old from Amherst, died in hospital as a result of the injuries sustained on July 29 associated to the electrocution.

Officers are working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to determine the manner of death. Criminality is believed to be a factor. However, investigators do not believe there is a risk to the public.

Investigators are aware that other people were with the man when the electrocution occurred and want to speak with those who were present. Officers are also asking anyone with dashcam footage or surveillance video from the Hwy. 321 area in Oxford between July 29 and August 2 to contact police.

Anyone with information that could support this investigation is asked to contact the Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit at 902-896-5060. To remain anonymous, call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or use the P3 Tips app.

Two arrested in drug trafficking investigation in Lower Sackville

A woman and a man have been arrested following a drug trafficking investigation led by the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment (HRD) Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU).

In September, RCMP HRD SCEU began a drug trafficking investigation after receiving information that a woman was selling cocaine believed to be laced with fentanyl.  Through the investigation, officers learned that the woman appeared to be working in partnership with a man.

On October 9, RCMP HRD SCEU officers arrested a 25-year-old Lower Sackville man after observing what was believed to be a drug transaction inside a vehicle in a parking lot on Cobequid Rd.  A search of the man resulted in the seizure of cash, while a search of the buyer led to the seizure of drugs.

At approximately 7 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 0-100 block of Cobequid Rd. During the search, officers seized suspected cocaine, unknown pills, cell phones, and a BMW believed to have been used in drug trafficking activities.

A 61-year-old Lower Sackville woman was arrested for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The woman and the man were later released and are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
