SiRT Investigating Serious Injury Following Attempted Traffic Stop
--------------------------------------------
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating after a member of the public sustained serious injuries in a vehicle collision following an attempted traffic stop.
Preliminary information suggests:
On the morning of October 11, 2026, members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) attempted a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The driver did not stop for police and continued into the intersection of Yorkshire Avenue Extension and Windmill Road, where the vehicle collided with another vehicle occupied by an adult male.
The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene following the collision. The adult male was transported to hospital by ambulance and was diagnosed with multiple serious injuries.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was located by police the following day and was identified as an adult female.
SiRT received a referral from HRP the same morning and immediately began its investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
