RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment charges man for hate-motivated threats
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has charged a man for hate-motivated threats toward a youth.
On September 17, officers responded to a report that a man had threatened and followed a youth on the evening of September 16. The youth was a passenger in a parked vehicle on Midnight Run in Middle Sackville when the man approached and attempted to remove the youth from the car.
When the vehicle left the area, the man followed, driving dangerously while continuing to make threats toward the youth during a cellphone conversation with the driver. Through the investigation, officers determined the man’s actions were hate-motivated.
On September 18, officers safely arrested the man at the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment.
Matthew Michael Jones, 21, of the Halifax Regional Municipality, has been charged with:
Uttering Threats (three counts)
Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
Criminal Harassment
Jones appeared in court on September 18 and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on October 22.
