Public Service Announcement: laptop battery fire
Earlier today WFD - WH Station 4 was paged to a laptop battery fire at our local high school. The staff at the school used a fire extinguisher on the laptop and binder to reduce any further damage. It was learned that the laptop was sealed up inside a binder and with lack of air movement and close to combustible material likely lead to today’s event.
Please do not leave your laptop sealed up with combustible material and keep in a safe and ventilated area.
We commend the staff for their actions. Thanks to our crews for the work and taking time to educate staff about the risks of lithium-ion batteries and our practices to mitigate any further risk when dealing with them.
