RCMP charges man after search warrant execution leads to seizure of nine firearms
A Steep Creek man has been charged after the Guysborough County District RCMP seized nine firearms during a search warrant execution with support from the Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and other RCMP units.
On September 28, Guysborough County District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion involving a firearm that had occurred two days earlier. Officers learned that a man had entered the home of a person known to him, damaged property, and assaulted a person in the home before leaving the home. The man was holding a firearm at the time. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
On October 1, officers conducted a search warrant execution at a residence associated to the man. In addition to support from ERT, the Nova Scotia RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team, Explosives Disposal Unit, Police Dog Services, and a remotely piloted aircraft system (drone) operator supported the safe execution of the search warrant. During the search, investigators seized nine firearms, including four shotguns and three rifles, and ammunition.
Jody Michael Decoste, 56, was safely arrested during the search warrant execution. He is charged with Assault, Utter Threats, and four weapons-related offences including Pointing a Firearm with Intent. He had a first court appearance on October 1 and remains in custody.
