Now we've seen everything

29272This cormorant found himself in a sticky situation! He somehow found himself in the drop keep trunk of a coast guard ship. A drop keel trunk is a vertical, internal compartment built into the hull of a ship or boat that is completely open to the sea at the bottom. Because it is open to the ocean, it naturally fills with water up to the ship's outside waterline.

We can only assume that because cormorants are expert divers, he surfaced inside of the ship and got confused about where he was and how to get out. Our rescue volunteer had to use plastic piping to extend the net pretty far to reach him! But, we got him, gave him a quick exam, and then released him back into the water.
