Fast response, thank you for our first responders
Shout out! A fast and coordinated response on Ostrea Lake Road yesterday saw first responders stretched out in a wide area to stay ahead of a fast moving forest fire, saving homes along the way. From a quick decision to begin evacuations, RCMP with Halifax SARensured that areas marked by fire crews were evacuated quickly and safely, expanding the evacuation as needed while EHS were on scene ready for immediate care of needed. A combination of HRFE and DNR fire crews hit the ground running, at one point leaving the woods due to dangerous conditions while a DNR helicopter bombarded the fire from above. Fire crews were focused and determined to do their job while comfort centres were opened by the city and community. Crews remain on Ostrea Lake Road today. Thankfully the overnight rain brought some relief and some, but not all, of the previous overnight evacuation, was lifted. Thank you, responders! Please note It's only June and crews have already responded to smaller brush fires this season. It is vital that people respect the daily burn ban and use common sense when you do burn.
