Earlier this spring, an RCMP community policing officer investigated an online threat of violence targeting a school that was shared through an app
The threat was taken seriously, and a thorough investigation identified the person responsible.
While the individual was below the age of criminal responsibility, appropriate measures were taken to address their actions and ensure accountability.
Online threats, even those made anonymously or intended as a joke, can cause significant fear and disruption for students, families, school staff, and the community.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with their children about responsible online behaviour and the real-world consequences of what they post online.
If you become aware of a threat to a school or the safety of others, report it to police immediately.
