Colchester County District RCMP charges man with multiple offences
Colchester County District RCMP has charged a man with multiple offences following a report of a break and enter in Belmont.
On September 25, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Colchester County District RCMP responded to a report of an unwanted man at a home on Lightbody Rd. in Belmont. While enroute, officers learned the man arrived at the residence in a black Mazda sedan and attempted to break into the home. He then broke a window at the residence, with what may have been a rifle, and left in the Mazda without going into the home.
Through the investigation, officers identified the suspect.
At approximately 11 a.m., the Mazda was located in the 900 block of Belmont Rd. and additional units, including the RCMP’s Critical Incident Program, were called in to assist in arresting the suspect.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., an emergency alert was issued to Colchester County advising local residents to shelter in place while the police operation was ongoing in Belmont.
At approximately 1:20 p.m., officers safely arrested Stephen Joseph (Dakota) Maloney, 35, of Belmont. He has been charged with 14 offences, including:
Break and Entering with Intent
Mischief
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
Careless Use of Firearm
Failure to Comply with Release Order (seven counts)
Maloney was remanded thru the Provincial Justice of the Peace Center on September 25 and was remanded into custody. He will appear September 28th , 2026 at Truro Provincial Court.
