Truro Police Service responded to the Truro Hub Shopping Centre on Robie Street following a complaint of a small dog being left in a vehicle

**** Via Truro Police On August 17, 2025, the Truro Police Service responded to the Truro Hub Shopping Centre on Robie Street following a complaint of a small dog being left in a vehicle. The windows were slightly opened, however the investigating officer deemed the dog was in distress. The owner returned to the vehicle as the officer was attempting to retrieve the dog. The owner was subsequently issued a summary offence ticket under The Animal Protection Act, Section 9(5) Standards of Care for Cats and Dog regulations, a fine amount of $697.50 was levied. The Truro Police Service would like to remind the public that the temperature inside a parked car rises quickly on a hot summer day and leaving the windows slightly open will not prevent your pet from being in distress or worst, a fatal heat stroke. Some symptoms of a heatstroke in pets can include: Excessive panting or difficulty breathing Increased heart and respiratory rate Drooling Mild weakness Stupor Collapse
