Concern continues to grow over the condition at Sullivan's Pond, including for its wildlife, as conditions continue to worsen as the Drought pushes on
Many online are calling for the lock separating Lake Banook to the pond to be opened, even for a short while, to allow the pond to be topped off.
In response, Councillor Sam Austin made this reply earlier on online.
"Releasing water from Banook and Micmac would lower their levels over time. There is fear that this would worsen water quality on those lakes that have recreational use and allow for more weed growth in shallow water, like what happened during the sewage line construction a decade ago.
If we lower the gate at Banook, water would eventually drain down to the new level and we would be right back to where we are now, just with a lower Banook/Micmac. With no significant rain in the forecast that is a real possibility.
What we really need is rain."
At this time, Environment Canada is calling for a chance of showers Thursday, however not much is expected for the region, causing the provincial burn ban, voluntary water conservation in HRM, and a forest access ban to continue.
