A Friendly Reminder from Your Local Volunteer Fire Fighters regarding Dry Hydrants
With the long, hot and dry summer we are having, the risk for forest fires is at extreme risk. Although someone "removed" the No Parking Sign, new ones have been ordered to replace it.
This is the dry hydrant in Beaver Bank located at Tucker Lake. There are no fire hydrants in North Beaver Bank so when there is an emergency and lots of water is needed (wild fire, house fire, forest fire, etc), this is where we get it.
We understand this is also a great spot for fishing and swimming in the summer but we ask that everyone who uses this area not to park so that your are BLOCKING the dry hydrant. Our fire trucks are quite large and need the space to work so it's not just in front of the hydrant that must be kept clear, it's also on the approach to the hydrant.
When vehicles are parked here, it makes it very difficult to get access to the hydrant and every minute counts! Changing our water supply plan or waiting for people to move can take up valuable time during house or brush fires.
