FINAL UPDATE – Big Indian Lake/Pipeline Rd. Wildfire
The wildfire near Pipeline Road / Big Indian Lake has been declared under control.
Thanks to the quick response from Halifax Professional Fire Fighters and our counterparts at the Department of Natural Resources, the fire was knocked down before it could spread. Special thanks to the skilled DNR helicopter pilots deployed from the Shubenacadie Flight Operations Centre, who began water drops before ground crews could access the fire — a decisive factor in containing it.
With hot and dry conditions across Nova Scotia, this incident is a reminder of how critical it is to have fire suppression professionals ready to respond instantly. Whether it’s DNR wildland teams or Halifax’s Professional Fire Fighters, fast, trained response makes all the difference.

The wildfire on Pipeline Road in Head of St. Margarets Bay, near the south end of Big Indian Lake, is currently contained. At this time, there is still no threat to residents or structures. Most HRFE and NSDNR staff started to depart the scene at approximately 8:30 p.m. and NSDNR staff will monitor conditions overnight. Fire crews will return to the scene in the morning to assess the fire and resume firefighting efforts, as needed. This will be the last alert for July 30.

Wildfire near Big Indian Lake – July 30, 8:40 p.m.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (NSDNR) has confirmed the wildfire on Pipeline Road in Head of St. Margarets Bay, near the south end of Big Indian Lake, is currently contained.
Given that the fire is not expected to grow or spread overnight, and to ensure firefighter safety, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) and most NSDNR personnel have started to depart the scene by last light, around 8:30 p.m. NSDNR staff will monitor conditions overnight. Fire crews will return to the scene early tomorrow morning to assess the state of the fire and resume firefighting efforts, as needed.
At this time, there is still no threat to residents or structures.
