Grass fires and downed trees on power lines kept crews responding throughout the region. A few notable calls included: • At 2:44 PM, volunteers from Station 50 (Hammonds Plains) and our members from Station 8 (Bedford) responded to a grass fire near a home on Kingswood Drive. The situation was quickly brought under control. • At 3:11 PM, volunteers from Stations 55 (Seabright) and 54 (Shad Bay) responded to an out-of-control grass fire in Indian Harbour. They arrived in 23 minutes to find flames impinging on a nearby home. Our members from Station 65 (Upper Tantallon) were later requested to assist. Thankfully, no structures were lost. • At 5:46 PM, our members from Stations 65 and 58 (Timberlea) responded to an out-of-control grass fire in Hubley. #hfxfirefighters arrived in 9 minutes and successfully contained the fire within feet of nearby homes. Sunday’s calls showed how important a strong and timely emergency response is. With crews responding to multiple incidents across HRM, it was a reminder of the role career fire fighters play in public safety—in stations, ready to respond when seconds matter. While today’s wind has eased, fire risk remains high. Dry grass, brush, and a buildup of fallen branches and leaves create ideal fuel conditions.
