Shell Diving Drysuit Inflation Valve with International Nipple recalled due to hypothermia hazard
Issue
The recalled valve is used in recreational and technical diving, and allows the diver to inflate the drysuit while descending in the water, providing the diver with thermal protection. The internal part of the recalled valve can malfunction while in use, causing loss of inflation and thermal protection, posing a risk of hypothermia to the consumer.
As of March 29, 2022, the company has received no reports of injuries or incidents in Canada. In the United States, the company has received two reports, without injury, of valve malfunction resulting in loss of inflation in the dry suit. The company has received one report of valve malfunction in Sweden, with no injuries.
Affected products
This recall involves the Shell Inflation Valve with International Nipple that was sold with diving drysuits as well as sold separately. The model number and batch code is stamped on the inside of the recalled valve. Instructions on how to find and identify the batch code can be found on the recall website. Consumers should note that it is possible for the logo on the valve to vary (e.g. SI TECH, other logos, etc).
