Municipal service level adjustments for the 2020 holiday season

The Emera Oval is expected to open for the 2020-21 winter season on Monday, Jan. 4, weather and ice conditions permitting.

The Emera Oval will have a reduced capacity to follow current public health guidelines. Due to COVID-19, skaters must pre-register for free public skate times at halifax.ca/myREC or by phone at 902-490-6666 902-490-4666. Skaters will be able to register two days in advance and there will be no group or school bookings for this season.

Free equipment loans, including skates and helmets, will be available in limited quantities. Equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis. Skaters are encouraged to bring their own equipment, where possible. CSA-approved multi-impact hockey helmets are mandatory for all children 12 year of age and under. Others are encouraged to wear a helmet, for their own safety.

The Emera Oval is the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec – approximately 55,000 square feet of ice or the same as three NHL hockey rinks. The ice surface will be open for free daily public skates throughout the winter.

Residents are encouraged to check the online calendar to book their time. Get the latest information and a schedule of events at halifax.ca/skateHRM
