Traffic disruptions in support of Larry Uteck Boulevard infrastructure upgrades
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic delays on Larry Uteck Boulevard, between the north and south Broad Street roundabouts.
These traffic delays are required to facilitate road infrastructure upgrades and the extension of the multi-use path (MUP) between these two roundabouts. This work is expected to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and is anticipated to be completed in mid-November 2026.
Time: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (weekdays)
Work details: This project includes coordinated road maintenance and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility and long-term road conditions, including:
Building a new paved multi-use pathway along the east side of Larry Uteck Boulevard
Installing new curbs and roadside drainage features
Upgrading the stormwater drainage system to help move rainwater away from the road and pathway
Removing old asphalt and paving with new asphalt
Refreshing road markings and installing or updating signs
Landscaping work, including new grass and tree planting
This work aligns with the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
Traffic impact: Traffic impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project and may include the following:
Weekday impacts:
Two-way traffic will be maintained with lane reductions and altered centelines in place for most of the project duration.
There will be periods of stop-and-go traffic when during the final stages of the project, including paving work.
These are expected to be the standard daytime traffic impacts during this project.
Weekend work: Some aspects of this project may require weekend work to minimize weekday traffic impacts.
Local access and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
Transit impact: Two transit stops on Larry Uteck Boulevard near the north Broad Street roundabout will be temporarily closed while this work is underway. Visit our website for up-to-date impacts to Halifax Transit routes and bus stops.
Active transportation impact: The shoulder of the road through this area is commonly used by people walking and rolling. As part of this project, a new multi-use path connection will be constructed to link the existing multi-use paths at either end of the corridor.
Due to limited space within the construction zone and the need to safely accommodate construction activities, local traffic, Halifax Transit and emergency vehicles, people walking and rolling must use alternate routes around the project area. Signage will be in place to direct travellers to available detour routes.

Traffic disruptions in support of Main Street repaving and maintenance work
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic delays on Main Street, between Forest Hills Parkway and Hillsboro Drive.
These traffic delays are required to facilitate road maintenance and infrastructure work in this area, which will begin during the week of Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, and are anticipated to be completed in early September 2026.
Times: During the first one to two weeks, work will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Following the completion of planned weekday work, crews will shift to weeknight work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekend work from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the remainder of the project.
Work details: This project includes coordinated road maintenance and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility and long-term road conditions, including:
Spot repairs and replacements of concrete curbs
Adjustments to manholes and water valves in the street
Milling (removing) the top layer of worn asphalt
Repaving with new asphalt
Repainting pavement markings and crosswalks
Minor landscaping and driveway connections
This work aligns with the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
Traffic impact: Traffic impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project and may include the following:
Weekday impacts: From 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. (peak traffic times), two-way traffic will be maintained with lane reductions in place. Outside of peak traffic times, there will be a mix of two-way and stop-and-go traffic. These are expected to be the standard daytime traffic impacts during this project.
Weeknight and weekend impacts: A mix of two-way and stop-and-go traffic will be maintained to minimize disruption and avoid full road closures. These are expected to be the standard overnight and weekend traffic impacts during this project.
Local, business, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
Sidewalk impact: Sidewalks are expected to remain open throughout this project.
Transit impact: Transit stops in this area will be closed during this work. Visit our website for up-to-date impacts to Halifax Transit routes and bus stops.
Active transportation impact: Bike lanes in this area will be temporarily closed during parts of the project. Cyclists will be directed onto the street around this work.

Traffic disruptions in support of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic disruptions along Bayers Road, between Connaught Avenue and Windsor Street.
These disruptions are required to facilitate construction of the Bayers Road Transit Priority Corridor Phase 2 project, which is expected to begin during the week of Aug. 4, 2026, and will continue throughout construction seasons, for approximately two years.
Work details: This project is part of the municipality’s Integrated Mobility Plan, Rapid Transit Strategy and supports the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. Work will include:
Repaving the street and replacing curbs and sidewalks to improve safety, accessibility, and connectivity for all road users
Construction of dedicated transit lanes and intersection upgrades to improve transit reliability and support transit priority
Coordinated underground utility upgrades in partnership with Halifax Water, reducing future disruptions and sharing construction costs
Design considerations to support future high‑capacity transit, including proposed bus rapid transit service
Traffic impact: Traffic impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project. The standard traffic configuration will include an inbound lane detour, along with additional impacts as required during specific phases of work:
Inbound lane detour: In place for most of the project timeline, this section of Bayers Road will be open to outbound traffic only. Inbound traffic will be directed along clearly marked detour routes.
Planned road closures: Some stages of the work will require short-term full road closures within the project area to ensure the safety of residents, road users and construction crews.
Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Planned road closures and any other changes to traffic patterns will be communicated in advance. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible.
Sidewalk impact: Sections of sidewalks will be closed in the work area as construction progresses. Access to local properties and businesses maintained.
Transit impact: Routes 1, 8, 192, 194, 196 and outbound trips on Route 330 have been altered in advance of this project. Stops will not be serviced along Bayers Road, between Connaught Avenue and Windsor Street. Temporary stops will be in place along Connaught Avenue, Almon Street and Windsor Street.

Traffic disruptions in support of Nantucket Avenue repaving and maintenance work
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic delays on Nantucket Avenue, between Wyse and Victoria roads.
These traffic delays are required to facilitate road maintenance and infrastructure work in this area, which will begin in mid-July and are anticipated to be completed in September 2026.
Time: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for weeknight work and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for weekend work
Work details: This project includes coordinated road maintenance and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility and long-term road conditions, including:

Access to and from the Macdonald Bridge via Nantucket Avenue will be maintained at all times.
Emergency access, local access and access to the Zatzman Sportsplex will be maintained at all times.
Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
Sidewalk impact: Sidewalks are expected to remain open throughout this project.

Traffic disruptions in support of the Waverley Road guiderail and retaining wall project
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of upcoming traffic disruptions along Waverley Road, between civics 1291 and 1335.
These disruptions are required to facilitate construction in support of the Waverley Road guiderail and retaining wall project, which is expected to begin during the week of June 8 (weather dependent) and be completed by late summer/early fall 2026.
Work details: This project will include several coordinated improvements designed to enhance road safety and long-term reliability, including:
Replacement and extension of the existing guiderail on the west side of Waverley Road adjacent to civic 1291
Shoulder widening toward Lake William to accommodate the new guiderail
Construction of a new retaining wall in select areas, along with slope reshaping and stabilization
Full‑width repaving of Waverley Road within the project area following construction
Replacement of stormwater pipes and culverts in the project area in coordination with Halifax Water
Temporary utility pole and line relocations in coordination with Nova Scotia Power, to facilitate the guiderail project
Traffic impacts: Traffic impacts are expected throughout the duration of the project and will include the following:
Stop-and-go traffic: For much of the project, this section of Waverley Road will be reduced to a single lane, with stop-and-go traffic in place day and night. This is expected to be the default traffic condition during this project.
Planned road closures: Some stages of the work will require short-term full road closures within the project area to ensure the safety of residents, road users and construction crews. These closures will be planned and communicated in advance. Local access will be maintained from both ends of the closure, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Street Closure – Halfway Lake Drive
Location: Halfway Lake Drive, near civic 88 Halfway Lake Drive
Date: April 17, 2026, until late 2027
Time: 24-7
Work details: This area has been closed out of an abundance of caution to protect public safety, as the culverts have reached the end of their useful life at this location. Municipal staff are prioritizing efforts to progress the replacement of these culverts with a new bridge. This project supports the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
Traffic impact: A detour will be in place around this closure via Kipawa Crescent and Chippawa Street. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
Active transportation impact: Access for people walking and rolling will be maintained during this closure.

Street Closure – Argyle Street
Location: Argyle Street, between Prince and Blowers streets
Date: Friday, April 17 until mid-November
Time: 24-7
Work details: This is to facilitate the seasonal closure of Argyle Street to motor vehicles, in support of the Moving Better goals outlined in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
Traffic impact: Argyle Street will remain fully open to people walking, cycling and rolling. Access to all stores and restaurants will be maintained. Drivers are asked to use alternative routes.

Road Closure – Tower Road
Location: Tower Road CN bridge, between Southwood and Pine Hill drives
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 4 until December 2026
Time: 24-7
Work details: This is to facilitate the Tower Road CN Bridge Rehabilitation project, part of a long-term plan to improve safety and reliability by rehabilitating seven CN-owned bridges on the Halifax peninsula.
Traffic impact: The Tower Road CN bridge will be closed for all use, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, while this work is underway. A marked detour via the Young Avenue CN bridge will be in place while this work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.
The municipality is working with CN, Halifax Water and other involved utilities to coordinate construction activities and minimize impacts where possible.
Transit impact: Halifax Transit route 29 will detour around this work. Five bus stops will be impacted during this closure to accommodate these changes. Updates will be posted on: halifax.ca/htdisruptions
