Antigonish County District RCMP investigating serious collision
Antigonish County District RCMP is investigating a serious collision that occurred in Heatherton.
On August 24, at approximately 6:55 p.m., RCMP officers, fire services, and EHS, responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision. Officers learned that a Nissan Qashqai and a Toyota Corolla had collided at the intersection of Hwy. 104 and Summerside Rd.
The lone occupant of the Toyota, a 74-year-old woman from Bayfield, was transported to hospital by EHS LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, a 23-year-old woman, and two passengers, a 43-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, all of Clydesdale, were transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. It has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision, including those with dashcam footage, is asked to contact Antigonish County District RCMP at 902-863-6500.
-RCMP investigating vehicle-bicycle collision in Sheet Harbour
RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is investigating a vehicle-bicycle collision in Sheet Harbour.
On August 24, at approximately 4:30 p.m., RCMP officers, EHS, and fire services responded to a collision involving a cyclist at the intersection of Hwy. 374 and Loon Loop.
Upon arrival, officers located a GMC Sierra with damage to its front passenger side and an e-bicycle on the opposite side of the guard rail.
Officers learned that the Sierra was travelling southbound on Hwy. 374 and approaching the north end of Loon Loop, and that the cyclist was entering Hwy. 374 from Loon Loop when the collision occurred.
The driver of the Sierra, a 71-year-old man from Westville, and two passengers were not injured. The cyclist, a youth from Lochaber Mines, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
Road users are reminded that safety is a shared responsibility. Cyclists should obey all traffic laws, remain alert at intersections, use appropriate safety equipment, and ensure their bicycles are visible, especially during low-light conditions. Motorists are encouraged to watch carefully for cyclists, check blind spots, and provide sufficient space when passing.
