To promote safe and responsible off-highway vehicle use, RCMP and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers recently conducted a joint enforcement operation along ATV trails in Lunenburg County and the Halifax Regional Municipality.
This initiative involved members of RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, including its Community Action Response Team and community policing officers, Lunenburg District Traffic Services, and DNR conservation officers.
Officers patrolled the South Shore Annapolis Trail, Adventure Trail, Dynamite Trail, St. Margarets Bay Trail, and BLT Trail. They made contact with 50 off-highway vehicle operators.
Enforcement results included:
✅ 26 Off-Highway Vehicle Act charges laid
✅ 7 Criminal Code charges pending
✅ 14 warnings issued under Off-Highway Vehicles Act / Liquor Control Act
✅ 4 off-highway vehicles seized
Officers also located five operators under the age of 16 who did not have the required safety training. Parents attended to retrieve the vehicles and were educated on off-highway vehicle safety training requirements.
Trail safety is everyone's responsibility. Riders are reminded to ensure they have the required training, follow applicable laws, and operate safely while enjoying Nova Scotia's trail systems.
