Man arrested for theft of motorcycle

**** HRP Release Man arrested for theft of motorcycle A man has been arrested following an altercation with a police officer in downtown Halifax. On August 5 at approximately 7 p.m., an officer was patrolling downtown Halifax on a police e-bike when he noticed a man riding a motorcycle on Upper Water Street without a helmet. As the motorcycle stopped at a red light, the officer approached and attempted to speak with the driver. The driver became aggressive and accelerated the motorcycle toward the officer. The officer grabbed the motorcycle, causing it to tip over. The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was arrested by other officers as they arrived at the scene. A check of the motorcycle’s licence plate revealed that the man riding it was not the registered owner. The owner was contacted and confirmed that the motorcycle had just been stolen from a parking spot on Lower Water Street. The officer was treated by Emergency Health Services for minor injuries.
