East Hants District RCMP investigating fatal collision
East Hants District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in South Maitland. On June 28, at approximately 2:05 p.m., East Hants District RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a collision in the 10300 block of Hwy. 215. Officers learned that a southbound motorcycle and a northbound Mazda MX-5 had collided.The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle, a 71-year-old man from Lower Truro, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Mazda, both from Truro, did not report any physical injuries.
Hwy. 215 was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the location of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

- PolicePictou County District RCMP investigating deliberate damage to railway crossing infrastructure
Pictou County District RCMP is investigating multiple reports of copper theft which has led to damage to safety-related infrastructure at railway crossings.
On June 10, 17, and 22, officers responded to reports of damage to equipment at railway crossings in rural parts of Pictou County. The damage appears to have been done deliberately as part of attempts to steal copper from the electrical systems.
Any damage to signage around railway crossings that may impact its functionality is a significant public safety risk. Tampering with any railway equipment is illegal, as it can prevent it from properly warning drivers and other road users of approaching trains at railway crossings.
Anyone with information that will support these investigations, including scrap dealers who may have accepted parts that came from this equipment, is asked to reach out to Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333. -Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit charges man for drug trafficking and firearms offences
The Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SWN SCEU) has charged a man with multiple offences after executing a search warrant in Greenwood.On June 22, SWN SCEU, with assistance of Kings District RCMP, searched a home in the 1700 block of Hwy. 201 as part of a drug trafficking investigation. Officers seized a quantity of cocaine and cash, a handgun and ammunition. One man was safely arrested at the residence.
Keenan Alexander Paul Swift, 34, of Freeport, Digby County, has been charged with:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)
- Careless Use of Firearm (two counts)
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
- Possession of Prohibited Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence
Swift was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on September 8.
The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by Kings District RCMP and the Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia.
