RCMP arrest two drivers for impaired-related offences in separate incidents
RCMP Northeast Traffic Services - Cape Breton has arrested two drivers with impaired-related offences following separate incidents in Cape Breton.
On June 11, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 4 in Sydney River. Officers learned that an eastbound Toyota Prius, driven by a 20-year-old man from Dominion, was struck by a westbound Toyota Corolla driven by a 73-year-old woman from Howie Centre.
Officers made a roadside alcohol screening demand to the driver of the Corolla; she failed to comply. The driver was issued summary offence tickets and arrested for impaired driving.
She was released and is due in Sydney Provincial Court on July 29.
On June 13, at approximately 7:15 a.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 105 in Millville, where a vehicle had gone over a guardrail. Officers observed signs of alcohol consumption from the driver. A roadside breath test resulted in a fail. The 23-year-old man from Florence was arrested for impaired driving.
He was released and will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on September 26.
Road safety is a shared responsibility. Impaired driving, along with speeding, distraction, and the improper or non-use of seatbelts, continues to be among the leading contributors to fatal and serious-injury collisions on Nova Scotia roadways. On June 19 at approximately 7:30 p.m. police responded to the area of Lavender Walk and Greystone Drive in Halifax for a report of a group of youth wearing medical masks and shooting a weapon in the air. When officers arrived, they found a second group of youth who reported encountering the first group. They said a weapon was pointed at them before the suspects fled. The suspects then returned, assaulted one of the youths, and fired a shot at them. The weapon is believed to be a BB gun.
All three suspects were located and arrested without incident.
The victims did not require medical attention.

- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Failure to comply with Undertaking
A 14-year-old youth was scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court today to face charges of:
- Robbery
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous to public peace (x2)
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Failure to comply with condition of release order
A 15-year-old youth was scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court today to face charges of:
- Robbery
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon (x2)
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2)
- Pointing a firearm (x3)
- Failure to comply with Undertaking while at large
- Intimidation-violence/threats

Police investigate stabbing
On June 21 at approximately 3 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured person laying on the sidewalk in the 5600 block of Spring Garden Road in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers located a 44-year-old man suffering from a stab wound. Officers provided first-aid at the scene before the man was transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident is not believed to be random. The investigation is ongoing.
