Alderney Ferry service reduction until further notice
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Alderney Ferry service will be reduced. Starting today at 2:15 p.m., service will run every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. This reduced schedule will apply on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. until further notice.
The service reduction is due to repairs on the Christopher Stannix vessel, which is experiencing a steering issue that requires parts to be replaced. This is a similar technical issue that the Vincent Coleman vessel recently experienced that requires proprietary manufactured parts. These repairs are complex, require specialized expertise and internationally sourced parts that also need to be manufactured and are not readily available as catalogued parts.
Halifax Transit staff are working with the international supplier in Europe to obtain the required parts to complete the repairs as soon as possible. An update will be provided when more information is available, as timing depends on the delivery of these parts.
The Woodside Ferry service experienced a disruption yesterday evening and this morning due to the steering issue with the Christopher Stannix vessel but will resume its regular weekday schedule, with service running every 15 minutes during peak hours.
The Craig Blake vessel continues to undergo scheduled inspections, as well as a significant repair, and will not be available for service until later this year.
Safety is the top priority and no ferry will return to service until all repairs and safety checks are complete. The municipality acknowledges that recent service disruptions have impacted riders, and thanks residents for their patience as Halifax Transit staff work to restore reliable service levels as quickly as possible.
