Update – Alderney Ferry service reduction until further notice 

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Vincent Coleman ferry is now expected to return to service by late February, rather than at the end of January as previously announced. As a result, the Alderney ferry will continue operating every 30 minutes on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., until further notice. 

This temporary service reduction remains necessary due to repairs required for the Vincent Coleman ferry, which experienced a steering system issue that requires specialized replacement parts. The delay in returning to regular service is due to the availability of these parts, and Halifax Transit is working closely with the international supplier who has confirmed that the necessary parts have been shipped from Europe and are expected to arrive in approximately two to three weeks.  

Once received, they will be installed and thoroughly tested. If the parts arrive on schedule, and repairs and testing proceed as planned, the Vincent Coleman ferry could return to service by late February. 

In addition, the Craig Blake, one of Halifax Transit’s five ferries, continues to undergo scheduled inspections and a significant repair, and will remain out of service until later this year.
