**** Via RCMP This weekend officers will continue to be out and about, checking for impaired drivers on roadways across the province Here’s just one example of what can happen if you choose to drive impaired: On New Year’s Eve, RCMP Northwest Traffic Services responded to a report that a pickup truck was travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy 102 when the driver lost control and the truck flipped. Upon arrival, officers noted the driver, a 43-year-old man of Antigonish County, was showing signs of impairment. The man provided a breath sample into a roadside screening device, which returned a “fail.” He was safely arrested and transported to the RCMP Bible Hill Detachment where he provided additional breath samples, which showed levels of 270mg% and 260mg%. The driver was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Vehicle While Over 80mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court in March. Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash.
