Traffic Delay – Intersection of Bedford Highway and Hammonds Plains Road

Location: Intersection of Bedford Highway and Hammonds Plains Road

Date: Thursday, Dec 4

Time: 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. (overnight)

Work details: This is to facilitate traffic signal work, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Lane drops and stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. The traffic lights at the intersection will be shut down at 8 p.m. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Street Closure – Barrington Street

Location: Barrington Street between Cogswell and Upper Water streets

Date: Monday, Dec. 8, to Wednesday, Dec. 10

Time: Closing Monday night at 9 p.m. and re-opening Tuesday morning at 5 a.m., and closing Tuesday night at 9 p.m. and re-opening Wednesday morning at 5 a.m.

Details: This closure is required to facilitate testing of the underground sanitary system. A by-pass pump will be installed in the bus lane to facilitate work to Halifax Water infrastructure in this area. This work is in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic impact: Detours will be in place during this closure. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Transit impact: Transit will be detoured overnight during this closure. No bus stops will be impacted.

Pedestrian impact: The east sidewalk will be closed from Monday night until Wednesday morning. Pedestrians are to use alternative routes as directed.

Traffic Delay – North Street

Location: 6111 North Street

Date: Thursday, Dec. 4

Time: 6 p.m. until 12 a.m.

Work details: This is required for natural gas pipeline restoration.

Traffic impact: One lane of traffic will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – Joseph Howe Drive

Location: Joseph Howe Drive, between Dutch Village Road and the Fairview ramp

Date and time: 10 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 to 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5

Work details: This is to facilitate a natural gas service installation.

Traffic impact: Two-way traffic will be maintained with lane reductions in place while this work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Roadway Closure – Dutch Village Road

Location: Dutch Village Road, between Supreme Court and the southern intersection of Joseph Howe Drive and Dutch Village Road

Date: Thursday, Dec. 4 (weather dependent)

Time: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Work details: This work was previously scheduled to take place over two days (Dec. 1 and 2) to reduce impacts on traffic, residents and businesses. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather conditions, this work has been rescheduled and combined into a one-day roadway closure of the full project area to allow for the top lift of asphalt paving for the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project.

Traffic impact: This area will be closed to traffic in both directions while this work is underway, with sections of Dutch Village Road reopening as work progresses. Detour signage will be in place, and personnel will be on-site to direct traffic. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Pedestrian impacts: Pedestrian access will be maintained, with temporary crosswalk closures expected as work progresses through the project area.

Transit impacts: The existing Halifax Transit impacts will continue to be in place during this work.

Inbound routes 28 and 137 will be detoured via Alex Street, Main Avenue and Titus Street to Dutch Village Road. The following bus stops will be temporarily closed during this work:

  • Rosedale Avenue at civic 34 (8242)
  • Rosedale Avenue before Dutch Village Road (8243)
  • Dutch Village Road before Andrew Street (6609)
  • Dutch Village Road before Sunnybrae Avenue (6638)
  • Joseph Howe Drive before Scot Street (6986) (only for route 28)

Outbound routes 28 and 137 will be detoured via Alma Crescent, Main Avenue and Alex Street to Rosedale Avenue. The following bus stops will be temporarily closed during this work:

  • Dutch Village Road after Alma Crescent (9042)
  • Dutch Village Road before Rufus Avenue (6614)
  • Dutch Village Road before Rosedale Avenue (6613)
  • Rosedale Avenue after Dutch Village Road (8245)
  • Rosedale Avenue at civic 23 (8244)
  • Dutch Village Road before Central Avenue (6788)

Roadway Closure – Highway 111

Location: Highway 111, between the Windsor Street Exchange and MacKay Bridge

Date and time: 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 to 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 (overnight work)

Work details: This is to facilitate preparations for the upcoming Windsor Street Exchange project.

Traffic impact: Marked detours will be in place while this work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Location: Glendale Drive, at Metropolitan Avenue

Date: Tuesday, Dec. 2

Time: 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Work details: This is to facilitate a sewer mainline repair in the area.

Traffic impact: Lane drops and stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Motorists are asked to expect delays and use alternative routes where possible.

Location: Young Street, from Oxford to Connolly streets

Date: Wednesday, Dec. 3 to Monday, Dec. 8

Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This work is needed for natural gas pipeline installation and road repair.

Traffic impact: Local access will be maintained. Detour will be in place on Cork Street. Traffic signage will be in place to guide drivers. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.

Location: Intersection of Brunswick and Duke streets

Date: Monday, Dec. 1

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This is to facilitate traffic signal upgrades as part of the Brunswick Street Complete Streets project.

Traffic impact: There will be stop-and-go traffic through this intersection while this work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Road closure – Jubilee Road

Location: Jubilee Road, between Edward and Robie streets

Date: Monday, Dec. 8 to Wednesday, Dec. 10

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This work is needed to support a nearby development at 1694 Robie Street.

Traffic impact: The road will be close to eastbound traffic only, with detours and traffic control signs to guide drivers through the area. Westbound traffic will not be impacted. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Pedestrian Impact: South sidewalk on Jubilee Road will be closed during work. Pedestrians are asked to use temporary crosswalk at Edward Street to walk around the work area.

Location: Woodlawn Road, between Portland Street and Valleyfield Road

Date: Sunday, Nov. 20

Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This is to facilitate road repair work in in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: An altered centreline will be in place while this work is underway. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Traffic Delay – Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project area

Location: Dutch Village Road, between Joseph Howe Drive and Alma Crescent

Dates: Friday, Sept. 19 to Friday, Dec. 21, 2025

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is part of the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project.

Traffic impacts: Access to nearby businesses and properties is being maintained throughout this project.

At 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, crews expect the current phase of work along the west side of Dutch Village Road to be completed.

After 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, crews will shift the lane closure to the east side of Dutch Village Road to facilitate the next phase of work. The changes outlined below will also come into effect.

Dutch Village Road will open to southbound traffic from Supreme Court toward the southern intersection of Joseph Howe Drive and Bayers Road. Dutch Village Road will be closed to northbound traffic in the project area.

Access to and from these streets along the west side of Dutch Village Road will open:

Sunnybrae Avenue

Central Avenue

Rosedale Avenue

Frederick Avenue

Rufus Avenue

Access to and from these streets along the east side of Dutch Village Road will close:

Deal Street (local access maintained via the northern intersection with Dutch Village Road)

Andrew Street (local access maintained via Percy Street)

Detour signage will be in place, and personnel will be on-site to direct traffic. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes.

Work details: This work includes upgrading traffic signals, in support of the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: An altered centerline and stop-and-go traffic will be in place, maintaining two lanes of traffic while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible.

Traffic Delay – Dutch Village Road

Location: Dutch Village Road, between Bayers Road and Supreme Court

Date: Tuesday, April 22 to mid-December 2025

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m
